Traffic movement was severely disrupted in Indirapuram on Saturday after a section of a culvert collapsed near Yashoda Medicity Hospital. The incident led to day-long congestion, affecting commuters from morning until night.

Traffic Diversions And Police Action

Following the collapse, traffic police alerted the Municipal Corporation and implemented immediate restrictions as a precautionary measure. A checkpoint was established at the Kanawani culvert to manage the flow of vehicles.

Heavy Vehicles: Heavy vehicles were barred from heading towards Indirapuram. Police stationed a crane at the Kanawani culvert to enforce this, compelling heavy vehicles to take a U-turn and find alternate routes.

Light Vehicles: Small and light vehicles were allowed to proceed towards the CISF road.

Impact On Commuters

The diversion and filtering of traffic caused vehicle speeds to drop drastically, leading to a bottleneck. Severe traffic jams were reported on several key routes:

- The route from Kanawani culvert towards Indirapuram.

- The route from Indirapuram towards Kanawani.

- The Elevated Road (congestion persisted here for hours).

- Surrounding link roads.

Cause And Future Action

Deshraj Singh, Executive Engineer of the Municipal Corporation's Construction Department, explained the cause of the collapse. He stated that operators of a private organisation had placed cemented slabs over the drains, one of which broke on Saturday. He assured that the Municipal Corporation would soon undertake permanent construction work at the site to resolve the issue.
