PM Modi Italy Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reached Italy's capital, Rome, for the final leg of his five-country visit. The prime minister was received at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed Modi to Rome with a photo at the historic Colosseum. "Welcome to Rome, my friend," the Italian prime minister wrote in her post.

PM Modi To Meet Italian Counterpart

PM Modi on Wednesday will meet Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella to discuss ways to boost the ties between India and Italy. In his post, the prime minister stated that the focus of the visit will be the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

"I have landed in Rome, Italy. I will meet President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and hold discussions with them. This visit will focus on how to strengthen cooperation between India and Italy, with particular attention to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)," PM Modi said in his post.

"The Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 will also be reviewed. I will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), reinforcing India's commitment to multilateralism and global food security," he added.

India-Italy Ties

PM Modi's visit to Italy has taken place amid rapid strengthening of relations between India and Italy, as both countries are actively implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. The action plan involves several sectors, including trade, investment, defence, clean energy, science and technology, and innovation.

Earlier in June 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Italy to participate in the G7 Summit. Ahead of his Italy visit, the prime minister attended the third India-Nordic Summit and participated in meetings aimed at strengthening India's relations with the Nordic countries.
