As the Mumbai Police probes the sexual assault case of two girls at a school in Maharashtra’s Badlapur, the Bombay High Court has asked the former to build a ‘watertight’ case. Besides, the court told the police to not file the chargesheet in haste under public pressure.
"Ensure investigation is proper. Ensure this is not a case of justice hurried ... Don't file a chargesheet in public pressure. Investigation has to be done correctly," Bar and Bench reported the court as saying.

A division bench, comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan, said the State of Maharashtra must sensitise boys to be able to build a safe environment for girls to grow in society. The State committee formed for this case should propose and implement strategies to address sexual assault of children and other similar crimes, said the bench hearing the suo moto PIL.
“Education of boys is important. Bete ko padhao beti ko bachao. (educate the boy and save the girl),” Justice Dere said, tweaking the government’s famous slogan over the empowerment of girls.
Badlapur Sexual Assault Case:
A massive public outrage entangled Maharashtra after two minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted in their school’s washroom. The agitated crowd rampaged across streets in Badlapur, blocking the railway tracks and roads.
Following the furore, an SIT was constituted by the state government to comprehensively probe the case. A 24-year-old man, Akshay Shinde, was arrested in the case.
The police informed the court that Sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 21 (failure to report or record a case) of the POCSO Act have been invoked in the First Information Report (FIR).
