As many as four Indians including a woman were charred to death following a major crash involving five vehicles in Texas of the United States. The victims, who had met through a carpooling app, were en route to Bentonville, Arkansas, when the crash occurred on Friday. The collision resulted in a fire that engulfed the SUV they were traveling in, causing their bodies to be severely burned.

According to some media reports, the victims have been identified as Aryan Raghunath Orampati, Farooq Shaik, Lokesh Palacharla, and Darshini Vasudevan. The father of one of the victims, Dharshini Vasudevan, had earlier sought help from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, tagging him in a post on X.

"Dear Sir, My daughter Dharshini Vasudevan holding Indian passport No-T6215559 has been in USA for the last 3 years, 2 years of MS studies and later 1 year of Employment and stays 3150 Avenue of the stars Apt 1110-Frisco,Texas-75034," the tweet posted on August 31 read.

"Yesterday evening she took a carpooling along with 3 others around 3 pm till 4 pm she was actively messaging and reachable on phone after 4 pm no further contacts could be established with her as well other 3 people who were travelling with her. The travel was from Frisco to Bentonville (her uncle home) since it’s a long weekend she pre-booked for the travel. We parents are really worried and it’s almost 12 hours we don’t know the status of our daughter. Please help," it added.

 

Orampati and his friend Shaik were heading back from a visit to Orampati's cousin in Dallas. Lokesh Palacharla was on his way to Bentonville to see his wife, while Darshini Vasudevan, who had earned her Master’s degree from the University of Texas, was traveling to Bentonville to visit her uncle.

They were identified through the carpooling app where they registered themselves for the ride.

Reportedly, the accident of the five vehicles took place after a speeding car collided with the SUV, following which the car caught fire and burnt them to death.
