Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor Status: Construction is swiftly taking place on India’s most awaited project Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, as it will be India’s first bullet train. Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently assessed the project work on the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) of Mumbai stretch. The main underground work is already completed.
The minister noted that work at BKC station, the only underground station on a 508-kilometre bullet train stretch, was advancing at a fast pace. The minister highlighted 4 major points from the progress on X, saying the aspirational bullet train achieved a milestone.
Completion of 75 per cent of excavation work, amounting to over 14 lakh cubic metres of earth removed.
Completion of 100 per cent of secant piling, with 3,384 piles installed to stabilise the site.
Over 2.7 lakh cubic metres of concrete work have been finished.
Side wall strengthening works have also been completed.

The only underground station of India’s first bullet train will feature three basement-level stations. It will include B3 for train parking, B2 for operational activities, and B1 for passenger access, alongside the ground floor.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X wrote, "Work on the bullet train’s origin station at Mumbai’s BKC is progressing rapidly. Tunnel construction is also moving swiftly, and in the Maharashtra section beyond the tunnel, all remaining work is picking up pace now that land acquisition is complete.”

Spanning 508 kilometres, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train is estimated to cost Rs 1.08 lakh crore. The central government will contribute Rs 10,000 crore, while both Maharashtra and Gujarat will each invest Rs 5,000 crore. The majority of funding for the project comes from a loan from Japan at a nominal interest of 0.1 per cent.
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is the implementing agency of the project. The aspirational project will feature 12 stations at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bhaurach, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
The train, estimated to reduce the travel distance between the two states to three hours, will pass through Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
