Mumbai Aarey Colony Leopard: An adult leopard was seen walking calmly along an inner road in Aarey Colony, Unit 5, on Friday. A motorist captured the sighting on video and promptly alerted forest officials, according to The Times of India.

Social media users reacted to the incident. One commented, “He came to his home, which is encroached on by other animals called human beings.” Another added, “We created the colony. Aarey was always a forest; let it remain one.”

This is not the first leopard-related incident in the area. Earlier this year, the body of a six-to-seven-month-old leopard cub was found in Aarey Milk Colony. The frequent sightings of leopards in this region are attributed to the overlap of their territory with the colony, which is near the southern boundary of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, allowing wildlife to move freely between the two areas.

In separate news, A leopard suspected of killing a forest watchman in Gujarat’s Chhota Udepur district was captured on Wednesday, according to forest department officials. The incident occurred on Monday evening in Ambakhut village, located in the Pavi Jetpur taluka.

Following the attack, the forest department set up traps in various locations to capture the animal. The leopard was found wandering near Ambakhut village when it was caught in one of the cages that had been installed.

The watchman, Ganpat Baria, who had served in the forest department for over 15 years, was attacked and dragged away by the leopard. His family reported his absence on Tuesday, prompting a search by local police and forest officials. They discovered Baria's bag nearby and signs of a struggle about two kilometres from his duty point. After extensive searching, the remains of Baria were found, severely mauled.

The leopard will be transported to the Pavagadh Rescue Centre in Panchmahal district for further management, say officials. Baria's body was sent for a post-mortem before being returned to his family on Wednesday.
