Maharashtra: Celebrations turned tragic, after at least 34 people, including the newly elected independent MLA of Maharashtra’s Chandgad constituency, Shivaji Patil, were injured in a fire on Saturday night. The women were performing 'aarti' in Mahagaon to celebrate Patil's victory in the recently concluded assembly elections during which a large quantity of gulaal was showered on the gathering from a crane, which fell on the 'aarti' plates and led to a fire.
In a video of the incident, a crane can be seen showering gulaal on the newly elected MLA and his supporters during a victory rally.

However, as the gulaal settles on the ground, it triggers a massive fire. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
In the counting of votes cast in the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly election, Patil emerged victorious in Chandgad, defeating NCP's Rajesh Patil by 24,134 votes. He rebelled against the BJP and contested the polls as an Independent.
The voter turnout in Chandgad this year stood at 74.61 per cent, as opposed to 68.64 per cent in the 2019 Assembly polls. In the last elections, Rajesh Patil had won from the constituency.
Maharashtra Assembly Election
The Mahayuti coalition of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP registered a massive victory in the state Assembly polls by winning over 230 seats. Out of these, the BJP won 130 seats, its highest ever in the state.
