Political slugfest has intensified in Maharashtra ahead of Assembly polls. While the opposition MVA continues to attack the Shinde government, the alliance partners in the Mahayuti government are at loggerheads within the coalition. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has made a statement over his feud with uncle Sharad Pawar, which resulted in a split in the party. He said that of late he realised that society does not appreciate divisions within families.

Pawar’s admission came after his faction of the NCP faced a massive jolt at the hands of MVA in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. His party managed to garner only 1 of the 17 seats it had contested.

Notably, Ajit Pawar fielded his wife Sunetra against his cousin Supriya Sule, who is the daughter of Sharad Pawar, from the Baramati seat. Sule emerged victorious from this seat by a thick margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.

According to the news agency PTI, while addressing a public rally organised by the NCP in Gadchiroli on Friday, Ajit Pawar attempted to prevent Bhagyashree, the daughter of party leader and state minister Dharmarav Baba Atram, from joining the Sharad Pawar-led NCP. There are speculations about a potential contest between Bhagyashree and her father in the upcoming state assembly elections.

"Nobody loves a daughter more than her father. Despite giving her away in marriage in Belgaum, he (Aatram) stood by her in Gadchiroli and made her the president of Zilla Parishad. Now you (Bhagyashri) are set to fight against your own father. Is this right? You should support your father and help him win because only he has the capacity and determination to develop the region. The society never accepts breaking one's own family," Pawar said.

This is the second time in less than a month that NCP leader Pawar has publicly admitted that putting his wife against his uncle Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule of the NCP (SP), was a mistake. He stated that politics should not enter the family sphere.
