Maharashtra News: A 20-year-old student collapsed while addressing a farewell gathering at a college in Paranda taluka of Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district on Friday, April 5. The student, Varsha Kharat, was a final-year BSc student at RG Shinde College. She was rushed to a hospital after collapsing mid-speech but was declared brought dead.

The incident occurred around 12:30 PM while Varsha was speaking at the farewell programme. According to witnesses, she was speaking confidently and even shared a light moment with the audience just before falling unconscious. The college faculty and students present at the event immediately arranged for her to be taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed her death.

The Times Of India report cited Varsha’s uncle, Dhanaji Kharat as stating that, she had undergone heart surgery around seven years ago and was on regular medication. He added that she had missed her daily dose of medicine on the day of the farewell due to being in a rush to reach college on time.

While the exact medical cause is yet to be confirmed, doctors suspect it could have been a heart-related complication. Some speculate that the high temperatures might have also contributed to her sudden collapse. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of death.

Faculty members described Varsha as a bright and determined student. She came from a humble background—her parents work as farm labourers. She is survived by an elder sister and a younger brother.

A video capturing the incident has surfaced on social media. It shows Varsha smiling and addressing the audience shortly before losing consciousness. Her final words included a lighthearted remark that made the audience laugh.
