In a tragic accident, a fishing boat on Friday caught fire 6-7 nautical miles away from the coast of Akshi Alibaug in Raigad district of Maharashtra. While providing details, the officials stated that the boat belonged to a farmer who was fishing while his boat caught fire. They further stated that the incident had taken place in the early hours of Friday, adding that the authorities started the rescue operation as they got the information.
The officials stated that the Navy team reached the spot and commenced their rescue operation as soon as they got the information regarding the incident. The official further stated that in a joint operation, the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy rescued all the 18 people from the boat, adding that there were no reports of any casualty in this incident.

Raigad SP stated that though the incident took place in the early hours of the day, the authorities were quick to respond and successfully rescued all the fishermen. "The fishing boat of one Rakesh Gan caught fire 6-7 nautical miles from the coast in Raigad district in In Akshi Alibaug, around 3-4 am. Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy rescued all 18 crew members from the boat safely," Raigad SP was quoted as saying by ANI.
While providing details, the authorities stated that a ship informed the coastal guards about the fire while they were patrolling. Indian Coast Guard Ships (ICGS) SavitriBai Phule, on patrol off Mumbai, sighted IFB on fire in Position 190 Prongs Lt 21, ANI reported, citing officials.
They further stated that the ship responded to the situation very quickly and confirmed that all fishermen from the boat had embarked on another IFB in the area and were safe. They stated that the reason behind the incident is not known yet, and the authorities are trying to decode it.
