Maharashtra News: A man was hacked to death in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Wednesday while his two sons looked on helplessly. The incident occurred near Silk Mill Colony, close to the railway station. According to police, the murder appears to have stemmed from an old business dispute
The victim, Syed Imran Shafiq, had stepped out with his three-year-old and 13-year-old children when a car intercepted their auto. A group of armed men dragged them out before attacking Shafiq.
The NDTV report cited police as stating that, the assailants assaulted him with sharp weapons, chopping off his fingers and slitting his wrist. He was then stabbed several times on the head, neck and chest. The attackers left him fatally injured under a nearby foot overbridge, while his terrified children witnessed the assault.
Police suspect that an old dispute connected to a gas business led to the attack. Within hours of the crime, three men were arrested. The prime accused has been identified as Mujeeb Don, a history-sheeter with multiple cases against him. His brother Saddam Hussain Moinuddin and brother-in-law Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Suleman were also taken into custody.
In separate news, the Maharashtra government has clarified that all shops and establishments, except those selling alcohol, can now operate 24x7. A circular issued by the Industries, Energy, Labour and Mining Department stated that businesses like permit rooms, beer bars and wine shops remain excluded. The move follows complaints that police and civic bodies were restricting extended hours. As per the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act, 2017, employees must receive a continuous 24-hour weekly rest. Authorities have been instructed to enforce the order, which also removes restrictions earlier applicable to theatres and cinemas. Officials expect the decision to boost commercial activity statewide.
