A 13-year-old girl of Class 8 has allegedly died by suicide by jumping off the third floor of her school building in Maharashtra’s Jalna on Friday morning, police said, as quoted by PTI. The deceased, identified as Aarohi Deepak Bidla, was a resident of Mastagad while the incident took place in CTMK School.

"Soon after the morning session began at her school, Aarohi jumped from the corridor on the third floor. Teachers and school staffers immediately rushed her to a private hospital. She was later shifted to the District Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead," said Sadar Police Inspector Sandeep Bharti who is investigating the matter.

Bharti further said that the authorities received information about the incident in the morning between 7:30 and 8:00. “An inquiry is in progress. Right now, only preliminary findings are available, and it would be too early to draw any conclusions. Only after a complete investigation can something concrete be said," Bharti added.

Aarohi’s father, Deepak Bidla, who works as a sweeper in a private hospital, said that he received a call from the school informing him about the incident. Deepak further said that his daughter had not shown any signs of distress at home and had left for her school as usual.

However, he said that her daughter had mentioned verbal harassment by some boys from her class. Listening to her daughter’s complaints, Deepak asked her to inform the same of the teachers. But no action was taken by the authorities even after her complaint, alleged Deepak.

Why Did The Incident Took Place?

The preliminary investigation of the police has unearthed several allegations of harassment and academic pressure against the girl. Aarohi had not been performing well in her academics in the past and feared that her teachers might complain about it to her grandmother, who works in her school as a sweeper. This dilemma allegedly strained her mentally.

Currently, the police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing all the stakeholders involved in the death of the girl. However, a direct correlation between these allegations and the girl’s suicide is yet to be established by the police.

Protests In Delhi, Jaipur

Meanwhile, a protest is going on outside Delhi's St Columba's School on Friday after a Class 10 student died by suicide, accusing some teachers of mentally harassing him and demanding strict action from the authorities. The protestors asserted that the school must be held accountable and urged the government to strengthen mental health safeguards for students.

Similar protests are taking place in Jaipur as well, where the grieving parents of a 9-year-old girl, Amaira Kumar, who died on November 1 after jumping from the fourth-floor parapet of Neerja Modi school, said that the school's affiliation to the CBSE should be cancelled over negligence in handling the case of their daughter.

Amaira's parents further threatened to hold a protest at the Shaheed Smarak on Saturday, November 22 and lead a candle march on Friday, November 21 evening.
