Mumbai news: Four days after a newborn was discovered discarded in a toilet bin at Mumbai's airport, police have identified a 16-year-old girl as the mother. The teenager, along with her mother, was scheduled to fly to Ranchi when she began experiencing labour pains, according to police reports. Both women described the incident as a "miscarriage."
Authorities are currently investigating whether the baby was born alive, stillborn, or if it was a foetus left in the bin. A post-mortem examination is pending, as a case has been registered at the Sahar police station.
Given that the girl is a minor, police have also filed a case of rape against her boyfriend, who has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The deceased infant, or foetus, was discovered last Tuesday by housekeeping staff in the women's washroom at Terminal 2 of the airport. Police were able to identify the girl after examining security camera footage from the airport. The mother and daughter checked in over two hours before their scheduled flight.
According to police, the girl claimed she had suffered a fall two days earlier, which may have contributed to her condition at the airport. She was seen on camera pacing nervously before entering the toilet with her mother. The girl told police that she miscarried while in the washroom, and her mother allegedly assisted her in leaving the foetus in the bin. After this, they reportedly changed their clothes before boarding their flight.

According to a Times Of India report,Police tracked them down using their flight booking details. The mother stated that she was aware her daughter was seven months pregnant, prompting their decision to fly to Ranchi instead of taking a train to attend a family event.
Following the incident, the girl claims her condition is stable, but police intend to conduct a medical examination. After providing their statements to the police, both the girl and her mother were served a notice but were allowed to leave the station.
