Mumbai BMC Election Result 2026: Maharashtra saw a significant turnout in its civic body elections, with around 50 per cent voter participation recorded in Mumbai and 28 other municipal corporations across the state. However, the day was overshadowed by controversy after claims emerged that the ink used to mark voters' fingers could be easily removed, raising concerns about the integrity of the voting process. Despite this, attention now shifts to the highly anticipated vote count for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, scheduled for Friday.
The vote count will determine the political control of Mumbai’s 227-ward civic corporation after a gap of more than six years.

Mumbai BMC Election Result 2026: What Does Exit Polls Predict?
Exit polls conducted prior to the vote counting have suggested a strong performance from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP and Shiv Sena. Polls by agencies such as Axis My India and JVC have predicted that the alliance could secure over 130 seats in the 227-ward BMC. On the other hand, the Shiv Sena (UBT)–MNS alliance is expected to trail with around 60 seats, while Congress is projected to secure approximately 20 seats.
These elections are particularly significant as they mark the first BMC polls since the 2022 split in the Shiv Sena, a move that saw the party divided into factions. The results will not only determine the future of Mumbai’s civic body but also reflect the shifting political dynamics in the state.
2017 BMC Elections Results
The last civic elections were held in 2017, with delays in fresh polls attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, Supreme Court rulings on OBC reservations, and ward delimitation issues. In the 2017 elections, the polling percentage in Mumbai was 55.53 per cent , while the average voting figure in 26 corporations (including the first-time elections in Jalna and Ichalkaranji) was 56.35 per cent .
Mumbai remains the focal point of the political contest, with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance facing off against the reunited Thackeray cousins (Uddhav Shiv Sena and the MNS) in what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle for control of Asia’s richest municipal body.
