There will be restrictions on the sale of alcoholic beverages on the eve of Independence Day, August 15, in Mumbai, preventing shop owners from opening their shops on Friday. With Independence Day, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi all falling this month, the Excise Department has marked multiple days when the sale of alcohol will be prohibited in the city.

  1. The first day when the sale of liquor will be restricted in Mumbai is (Friday) August 15, Independence Day. The state excise department has marked this day for the non-sale of liquor substances. This is a mandatory dry day across India, and all liquor shops, bars, pubs, and wine shops will remain closed.
  2. Apart from August 15, the Excise Department has also marked August 16 and August 27 for the non-sale of alcohol products.
  3. The second dry day in Mumbai falls next day of August 15. As August 16 (Saturday) is Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna, Maharashtra often observes restrictions on this occasion due to its religious significance. However, it is not a national dry day. 
  4. The third dry day in August falls on August 27, Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated with grandeur in Maharashtra. 
  5. Although the dry day is officially observed on the first day of the festival, Authorities may impose additional restrictions on visarjan days, especially 5 and 6 September, due to public processions and large-scale gatherings.
