Mumbai News: A new Rs 1,100 crore elevated corridor project is set to ease congestion for commuters on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) announced that this project is expected to be completed by February 2027.
Mumbai: New Corridor Route
The initiative includes two major elevated corridors: one extending from the Chirle end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to Gavan Phata and the other connecting Palaspe Phata to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Construction has already begun and officials anticipate that it will improve connectivity between Atal Setu and the expressway, helping to alleviate traffic between key junctions.

This extension is expected to ease traffic congestion along busy stretches like Lady Jamshedji Road and Dr Annie Besant Road, and enhance access to key business hubs such as BKC, SEEPZ, and Andheri-Kurla Road. It will also improve connectivity to residential areas and important religious landmarks like Siddhivinayak Temple and St Michael’s Church. The first phase of Metro 3 was launched in October 2024, and this extension aligns with the Maharashtra government’s 100-day plan. Safety approvals are in progress, with an Independent Safety Assessment underway before the final inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.
