Mumbai Elphinstone Bridge Demolition: The demolition of Elphinstone Bridge, which started just after midnight on Friday, has led to major changes in BEST bus services across central Mumbai. With Jagannath Bhatankar Road closed for traffic, thousands of commuters have been affected as buses are now forced to take alternative routes.

Initially, traffic was moved through Mahadev Palav Road, also called Currey Road Bridge, to ease congestion. However, on Saturday, authorities further restricted movement by closing Mahadev Palav Road between Shingate Master Chowk and Bharatmata Junction. As a result, several important BEST bus routes have been redirected through Chinchpokli Bridge to maintain connectivity.

Mumbai BEST Bus Diversions

On the return journey, diverted buses will travel through NM Joshi Marg and Mahadev Palav Marg to rejoin Shingate Master Chowk. From Bharatmata Junction, buses on routes 14 and 57 will continue eastwards along their original roads, while those on routes 162 and 168 will take BA Road, pass through Madake Buva Chowk under Parel Bridge, and then move east to resume normal paths.

The sudden diversions have caused inconvenience to daily commuters, with longer travel times expected in the coming days. BEST has advised passengers to check updated route plans before starting their journeys, as the diversions will continue until the demolition work at Elphinstone Bridge is completed.
