A major fire broke out on the 42nd floor of a high-rise residential building in Byculla, south Mumbai, on Friday morning. The blaze erupted around 10:45 AM in one of the twin towers of Salsette 27 on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road. Multiple fire tenders were rushed to the scene and firefighting operations are currently underway.

Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BEST, police and 108 ambulance services were immediately mobilised. Thick plumes of black smoke were seen billowing from the building’s partial glass facade, visible from a distance. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and officials continue to monitor the situation.

In another incident, a fishing boat caught fire early Friday, about 6-7 nautical miles off the coast of Akshi Alibaug in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, officials said. The boat belonged to a farmer engaged in fishing when the fire broke out. Authorities launched a rescue operation immediately after receiving information.

The Indian Navy and Coast Guard swiftly responded, reaching the site and carrying out a joint operation. All 18 people on board were safely rescued, and no casualties were reported, officials confirmed.

In a separate incident on February 22, a fire broke out in a five-storey residential building at Marine Chambers near Gol Masjid in south Mumbai’s Marine Lines. The blaze affected electric wiring, furniture, false ceilings, and household items in a fifth-floor flat.

Firefighters evacuated stranded residents using the staircase, and the fire was doused by 2:10 pm. No injuries were reported, officials said.
