Mumbai News: A 40-year-old Airoli resident died in a accident on Palm Beach Road early Thursday morning, leaving behind his wife and four-year-old daughter injured. The incident occurred around 3:15 AM near the Sarsole Jetty signal as the family was returning home from Belapur.

The collision involved an high speed SUV driven by 26-year-old Omkar More. The impact was so severe that the hatchback rolled over multiple times, causing extensive damage to its right side. Manish Pednekar, the driver of the hatchback, died instantly from the injuries he sustained. His wife, Sneha (34), who was seated beside him, suffered minor injuries, while their daughter, Ananya, who was in the back seat, is currently in critical condition in the ICU.

Following the crash, the SUV swerved off the road, rolled over and came to rest on its side. Reports from the Nerul police indicate that More fled the scene. Investigators later discovered broken beer bottles inside the abandoned SUV, suggesting he had been drinking prior to the incident.

The Times Of India report quoted police suspecting that More was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was apprehended within three hours and a medical test conducted at NMMC Hospital in Vashi confirmed the presence of alcohol in his system, according to Senior Inspector Brahmanand Naikwadi of the Nerul police station.

Inspector Naikwadi reported that as the airbags in the SUV deployed, More escaped with only minor injuries. Tragically, Manish Pednekar was declared dead upon arrival at NMMC Hospital in Nerul. Sneha has since been admitted to Dr. DY Patil Hospital and is reported to be out of danger, while Ananya remains in critical condition at Apollo Hospital in Belapur.

An FIR has been filed against Omkar More, who has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving resulting in death. He has been remanded to police custody until November 9.

Additionally, the police have invoked Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, which addresses the criminal offence of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
