In a chilling case, a 40-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his four-year-old stepdaughter, whose body was found floating in the Arabian Sea near Sassoon Dock on Tuesday morning in Mumbai.
The accused, Imran Shaikh, was taken into custody by Colaba police after the child’s body was recovered. Authorities confirmed that the girl had been missing from Antop Hill in central Mumbai. Following her disappearance, Shaikh and his wife Nazia, who works as a domestic help, reported the matter to Antop Hill Police Station.
Initially, police registered a kidnapping case against an unknown person. But as officers reviewed CCTV footage from the Antop Hill area, they noticed the child was last seen with Shaikh. This critical detail shifted the focus of the investigation toward him, as per News18 reported.

After recovering the body, police detained Shaikh for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to strangling the child and throwing her into the sea. An official involved in the case said, “The girl was allegedly killed by her stepfather in a fit of rage, reportedly because her presence was interfering with his time alone with his wife.”
Investigators believe the situation escalated further when the girl was playing on a mobile phone late at night, which enraged Shaikh and ultimately led to the murder.
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, and further legal proceedings are underway.
