Mumbai is reeling with inclement weather as the rainfall that started pre-monsoon continued with the onset of the southwest monsoon in Maharashtra. The incessant rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas of India's financial capital, including the newly inaugurated Worli metro station on the underground Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line.

The rainfall not only inundated the entrance but also the platforms where passengers were waiting to catch the train. The condition of the newly inaugurated station was shared widely on social media through videos and pictures that prompted reactions from users.

In the video, passengers could be seen wading through the muddy water. In one of the video clips, people could be seen walking up the stairs while the water was flowing downwards like a small waterfall.

One of the post sharing video clips of the incident received mixed reactions, with some complaining, others raising questions about the authorities, and the quality of work. Some others also reacted sarcastically.

A user related the flooding at the underground station to the line's name, 'Aqua'. He said, "We are idiots. They were serious when they named it Aqua Line."

The Line 3 between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli was operationalised after much wait on May 10.

The waterlogging inside the station has raised serious questions on the planning and construction of the project, given the fact that Mumbai receives the heaviest monsoon rainfalls annually.

Line 3 has been at the centre of passenger woes since its inauguration. Being entirely underground, the passengers faced a network outage on the line in the Mumbai Metro

On Sunday, the southwest monsoon made an onset in Maharashtra. It was the earliest onset in 12 years, marking a change of weather pattern that would bring heavy rainfall for four months of the rainy season between June and September. The weather department has accordingly issued orange, yello,w and red alerts in the state.
