Mumbai:  In a major push for urban infrastructure, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved two new metro corridors in Mumbai: the Rs 23,487 crore Metro Line-11 connecting Wadala to Gateway of India and a 29-kilometre circular metro line in Thane. The cabinet also approved several key projects, including Pune-Lonavala suburban rail expansion and a 25-km elevated road connecting Thane to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also approved extensions to the Pune and Nagpur metro lines, additional stations in Pune, an international business hub in Nagpur and policy measures related to energy and tribal development.

Mumbai Metro 11: Wadala To Gateway Of India

The Mumbai Metro Line-11 will span over 17.51 km, connecting Anik Depot in Wadala to the Gateway of India via Nagpara and Bhendi Bazaar. The corridor will enhance multi-modal connectivity by linking with Metro 3, Metro 4, the Monorail at Wadala, and major suburban railway stations such as Byculla and CSMT.

- Length of Mumbai Metro Line-11: 17.51 km long

- Route: From Anik Depot to Gateway of India via Nagpara and Bhendi Bazaar

- Connectivity: To link with Mumbai Metro-Line 4 (Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali), Mumbai Metro 3 (Aqua Line: Aarey-BKC-Cuffe Parade), Monorail at Wadala and suburban stations like Byculla and CSMT.

- Estimated Cost: Rs 23,487 crore

- Agency: Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited will design, construct and operate Mumbai Metro-11.

Details About Thane Circular Metro

The Maharashtra cabinet has also approved a 29-km circular metro line in Thane city. The project is a major infrastructure initiative backed by the Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also heads the urban development department.

- Length of Thane Circular Metro: 29 km

- Estimated Cost: Rs 12,200 crore

- Agency: Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
