Mumbai Metro Line 2B: People in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs will soon witness improved connectivity. According to Mumbai Metro’s plans, the construction of ‘Metro 2B’ was supposed to be finished by October 2022. However, due to delays, nearly 98 per cent of the first phase work has now been completed. The Mandalay depot’s construction is also 98 per cent complete, featuring a car shed covering 31.4 hectares, capable of accommodating 72 Metro trains. Soon the Metro will begin operations on the 5.39 km stretch from Mandalay to Diamond Garden (Chembur), reducing travel time by 20 minutes.
The Metro will serve stations at Mandalay, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden. This metro line will connect V. N. Purav Marg and the Shiv-Panvel Highway, with future plans to link the Harbour Railway Line at Mankhurd and Metro 8A at Mandalay.
Currently, efforts are focused on completing the Metro system, which includes E&M, S&T, track, and MEP works. Construction on the remaining route from Diamond Garden to DN Nagar is still ongoing, with officials indicating the full route will be operational by December 2026.
Various tests will be conducted on the Metro route, including checks on platform screen doors, the automatic fare collection system, data storage on the Metro track, monitoring, and quality assurance. Additionally, signalling tests will be carried out to ensure optimal speed and performance.
In another update, Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, will temporarily changed its operating hours on Friday, April 18. This adjustment is due to the final trial integration of the Aarey–BKC corridor. On this day, metro services began at 8:30 AM, instead of the usual 6:30 AM and will run until 10:30 PM.
