Mumbai Metro Line 8: In a bid to connect the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the state government has planned to build the Mumbai Metro Line 8 with the help of City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO).

The project will, for the first time, create an internal, continuous metro network across multiple Navi Mumbai suburbs. According to the detailed project report (DPR), 11 stations will fall within the Navi Mumbai limits. The metro line will traverse through the Vashi Creek bridge from Mankhurd, running along the Sion–Panvel Highway, before turning inward towards Nerul, Seawoods, and Ulwe before reaching NMIA.

Earlier, the state government recently included the Line 8 in the MMRDA’s 337-km regional metro plan. The line was initially proposed to be a joint project between MMRDA and CIDCO. But now it will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model led entirely by the CIDCO.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport, with the first flight scheduled for December 25.

Key Suburbs, Educational, Commercial Hubs To Be Connected By Line 8

The Metro Line 8 is also expected to pass through major suburbs, educational and commercial hubs like Vashi, Sanpada and Juinagar. From LP Junction in Nerul, the route turns inward, with a major station planned near Dr D.Y. Patil University.

The alignment will then run through inner Nerul and Seawoods, including a station near Wonders Park, before heading toward Ulwe via Apollo Hospital and behind the NMMC Headquarters.
