Mumbai Metro Update: Trial runs for Mumbai Metro Line 9, the first metro line in Thane district, are set to begin this week on the stretch between Dahisar and Mira Road. This follows the successful energising of overhead traction wires on Saturday, which has enabled dynamic testing on the 4.97-km section from Dahisar to Kashigaon.

The trial phase will focus on checking train movement, signalling, communication and safety systems before the line is opened to the public. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to flag off the first trial run.

Metro Line 9 is an extension of Metro Line 7 and will eventually provide a direct link between Andheri (Western Express Highway) and Bhayandar (West), offering relief to the heavily used Western Railway corridor. In its initial phase, the line will operate till Kashigaon, covering four stations—Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon. The second phase will connect the route to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar (West).

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has urged the public to be cautious near the Metro-9 route during testing activities. Kashimira station, which is part of this corridor, is located just 1.4 km from Mira Road station, ensuring better last-mile connectivity for residents.

In a separate development, CM Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde inaugurated Phase 2A of Mumbai Metro Line 3 on Friday. This section, from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka), is now opened to the public.
