Mumbai High Alert: A Whatsapp threat call received by the Mumbai Traffic Control Room has put Maharashtra’s capital on high alert. As per the police, the caller claimed that “34 human bombs” planted in “34 vehicles" was powerful enough to shake the entire city. The threat was issued on Thursday by an organisation called Lashkar-e-Jihadi which added that 14 Pakistani terrorists have entered India.
"Traffic Police in Mumbai received threats over their official WhatsApp number. In the threat, a claim has been made that 34 'human bombs' have been planted in 34 vehicles across the city and the blast will shake the entire Mumbai. The organisation, claiming to be 'Lashkar-e-Jihadi', says that 14 Pakistani terrorists have entered India. The threat message further states that 400 kg of RDX will be used in the blast. Mumbai Police is alert and security across the state has been enhanced. All angles of the threat are being investigated,” Mumbai Police said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
The Mumbai Police is taking precautions to prevent untoward incidents in the city. Security has been beefed up at key locations and combing operations are being conducted at different places. The police have also appealed to Mumbaikars not to believe in rumours and report any suspicious activity.
Earlier, in July, a bomb threat at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) triggered a high-level security response. The police said nothing suspicious was found after a thorough search of the premises.
Senior Inspector Sambhaji Katare of the Government Railway Police (GRP) at CSMT told ANI, "As per the SOP, concerned teams were called, and a search operation was carried out. With the help of the bomb disposal squad and dog squad, we searched the entire station. Nothing suspicious was found. We've registered a case at Mumbai's Colaba Police station, and the call regarding the bomb threat had come from Assam. Further investigation into the case is underway."
The threat was received via a phone call to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra. The caller claimed that a bomb would be planted at CSMT station, prompting immediate action from the Railway Police and Mumbai Police.
