Mumbai News: In a move aimed at enhancing security, the Mumbai Police have imposed a ban on the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, para gliders and hot air balloons for one month. This prohibition is effective from April 4 to May 5, officials announced on Thursday.
The decision, made under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, stems from concerns that such flying devices could be exploited by terrorists or anti-social elements to carry out attacks, particularly against VVIPs. Officials believe that these aerial tools could pose a threat to public safety, potentially endangering lives and damaging property.

The order specifically prohibits any flying activities involving drones and similar devices within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police. Exceptions will only be made for police aerial surveillance or with prior approval from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).
Violators of this order will face penalties under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses disobedience to lawful orders issued by public servants. The police urge the public to comply with these regulations to help maintain safety and order in the city.

Meanwhile, despite a slight dip in temperatures, Mumbai’s hot and humid weather is set to persist. On Thursday, the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, down from 36.9 degrees Celsius the previous day. However, a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar from April 5-7, warning of rising heat. Meteorologists attribute this to an anticyclone over the Arabian Sea, bringing dry northerly winds. Humidity levels remain high, with Santacruz and Colaba observatories recording 79 per cent and 78 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and a weakening trough from Lakshadweep to Konkan were observed.
