Mumbai Railway Projects: Mumbai is set to see significant improvements in its rail infrastructure, with twelve projects currently in progress under the Central Railway Division. Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw announced these developments in a recent social media update.
- One of the key initiatives is the construction of new 5th and 6th lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kurla. This project aims to enhance local train services by separating local trains from mail and express services. Phase 1, which covers a 10 km stretch from Parel to Kurla, is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
- Another important project is the ongoing construction of the 6th rail line between Mumbai Central and Borivali. The Khar-Goregaon stretch, measuring 8.9 km, has already been completed and commissioned, while work on the Goregaon-Borivali section is progressing quickly.

- The extension of the Harbour Line from Goregaon to Borivali is also underway, which will help reduce congestion in the busy Andheri-Borivali corridor. Land acquisition for this extension is currently in progress.
- Additionally, the development of 5th and 6th rail lines between Borivali and Virar is expected to alleviate pressure on the Borivali-Palghar fast corridor, which will be reserved for suburban trains.

- Utility shifting work is ongoing for several projects, including the crucial quadrupling of the Virar-Dahanu Road section. This project will greatly improve rail connectivity and reduce congestion in the region, with earthwork and bridge construction already underway.
- The completion of the Panvel-Karjat rail line will introduce a new suburban corridor, linking Navi Mumbai with the Raigad district. This initiative aims to enhance access to underdeveloped areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with tunnelling and bridge work currently in progress.
- Another project involves constructing a 4th railway line between Kalyan and Asangaon stations, which will improve local train connectivity throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Land acquisition for this project is also in progress.
- Furthermore, the addition of third and fourth rail lines between Kalyan and Badlapur will expedite train services and increase the frequency of local trains to meet rising demand. Currently, utility shifting, earthwork and bridge construction are all underway for this enhancement.

- To further streamline operations, a new Naigaon-Juichandra Double Chord Line is being constructed. This project will prevent delays caused by engine reversals for trains originating from Mumbai Central, Dadar, or Bandra Terminus heading to the Konkan Railway and southern India.
- Lastly, a new 5 km chord line between Nilaje and Kopar is expected to shorten train travel times between Vasai and Panvel by approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
