Mumbai Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday, extending to Thane, Raigad, and Palghar as the Konkan coast prepares for a prolonged wet spell. Despite the heavy showers, road traffic across the city remained largely smooth, though local train services experienced minor delays, while buses operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) continued running without any diversions.

Mumbai Travel Advisory

SpiceJet, in its advisory, urged passengers to monitor live traffic updates and flight status before leaving for the airport. “Due to bad weather (rain) in Mumbai, traffic congestion is expected. Passengers travelling to the airport are requested to keep a tab on live traffic and flight status, and plan their journey accordingly,” the airline said in a post on X.

IndiGo also echoed similar concerns, highlighting the impact of the incessant showers on road movement. “The showers have not taken a break in Mumbai, and neither has the road congestion. Traffic towards the airport is currently slower in several areas. We recommend planning your commute in advance and checking your flight status before heading out,” the airline stated. IndiGo further assured passengers that its airport teams were on the ground to assist travellers.

Rescue Operation

In response to the red alert, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has stepped up its preparedness, deploying six teams across flood-prone districts of Marathwada, two each in Solapur and Dharashiv, and one each in Beed and Latur, while teams in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Nagpur remain on high alert for rapid deployment if required. Shri Santosh Bahadur Singh, Commandant of NDRF Pune, confirmed that the force is fully ready to provide all possible support to affected areas.
