Mumbai Rains Update: Mumbai and its neighbouring districts were lashed with heavy rains from Sunday night through Monday noon, causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts as the southwest monsoon began withdrawing from India, while rescue operations were launched in flood-hit areas of Beed district.

The downpour affected Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reported. Low-lying areas of the city were waterlogged, causing traffic jams and affecting daily life during peak hours. The IMD issued a Nowcast Red Alert for the region on Monday morning, while the BMC and Mumbai Police warned citizens to stay cautious.

Heavy Rainfall Surpasses Annual Average In Mumbai

- Santacruz recorded 2,786 mm rainfall this season, 120.15 per cent of the average annual rainfall.

- Eastern suburbs: 2,404.88 mm; Western suburbs: 2,377.10 mm; City area: 1,911.59 mm.

- The overall city average annual rainfall is 2,207 mm.

Maharashtra News: Floods Hit Beed District, NDRF Conducts Rescue Ops

In Beed district, large areas were marooned, especially in Ashti tehsil. The Indian Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to rescue stranded residents. Beed Collector Vivek Johnson confirmed the ongoing operations. The Army’s Southern Command said helicopters from the Thar Raptors Brigade were dispatched promptly, with pilots navigating adverse weather to airlift citizens to safety.

Rescue operations were also reported in other areas of Pune and Marathwada:

- Theur in Haveli tehsil, Pune district

- Kada in Ashti tehsil, Beed district

- Jakhede Khalsa and Satwad villages in Pathardi tehsil

- Bhagur village in Shevgaon tehsil, Ahilyanagar district

Maharashtra Weather Forecast And Alerts

IMD expects heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in Konkan and Marathwada over the next few days.

- Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar valid till Tuesday 8:30 AM.

- Red Alert issued for Raigad district.

- Yellow Alert for isolated heavy showers and lightning expected for the following two days.

Skymet Weather forecasts that moderate-intensity rains and thundershowers will continue throughout the week, with occasional breaks. Both northern and southern suburbs of Mumbai are expected to be affected equally.

Citizens are advised to avoid waterlogged areas and plan travel accordingly while authorities continue relief and rescue measures across affected districts.
