Mumbai Schools Closed Tomorrow: Amid a red alert in Mumbai for very heavy rainfall bringing daily lives to a halt, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday announced a holiday for schools running on the second shift on August 18.

- The BMC ordered all government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to suspend offline classes for the second half of the day on Monday.

- The corporation is also expected to order the suspension of classes for the following day on Tuesday, as heavy rainfall continues to pound the city. 

- Civic officials have confirmed that the decision will be reviewed late tonight (August 18) based on rainfall intensity and IMD updates, One India reported. 

- On the other hand, the Thane administration has also issued orders for schools to suspend classes amid heavy rainfall in the city. 

- The corporations took the decision to close all the schools, colleges and other educational institutions following the red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). 

Mumbai Rain On Monday: 97.88mm Rainfall Till 2 pm

Mumbai has seen a substantial amount of rainfall, with an average of 97.88 mm recorded till 2 pm on Monday. The rainfall in the suburban areas has been notable, with 86.21 mm in the Eastern Suburbs and 83.10 mm in the Western Suburbs.

Red And Orange Alert In Half Of Maharashtra Till August 21

Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Monday said that till next three days, until August 21, nearly half of the districts in Maharashtra would remain under either Red or Orange Alerts.

The weather and civic bodies have urged the residents to avoid stepping out unless it is very important. The waterlogging woes in Mumbai created a flood-like situation. Train services on the Harbour Line are running with slight delays following heavy rain and waterlogging at Mankhurd, Govandi, Kurla, and Tilak Nagar stations.
