Elphinstone Bridge To Be Rebuilt As Double-Deck Bridge

The Elphinstone Bridge’s deteriorating conditions raised significant safety concerns for commuters, prompting its closure. Authorities have decided to demolish the old structure and rebuild it as a double-deck bridge, designed to handle traffic more efficiently.

The closure is currently affecting vehicular traffic in Mumbai, prompting authorities to issue alternative routes. The reconstruction of the bridge, which started in 2025, is likely to be completed by January 2027.
