Mumbai Weather Alert: The weather conditions in cities of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have been severe as heavy rainfall has lashed the state in the last few days, as the Southwest monsoon continued to advance in the state. The weather conditions have caused hindrance to daily activities, bringing life to a halt in multiple parts. 

Localised flooding is expected in Mumbai as IMD has placed the city under a yellow alert on Thursday for intense rain. The rainfall is likely to continue till June 21, and relief is expected by June 22- 23.

Heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging on key routes, disrupting the daily commute in the city. Streets were submerged, forcing daily commuters to navigate through flooded paths. 

Routes To Avoid During Heavy Rainfall

The majority of the city is prone to flooding and traffic snarls during heavy rainfall, resulting in added struggle for daily commuters. The motorists and office goers are advised to avoid the following routes-

  • Sion, Kurla, Chembur and Dadar: Regularly affected by severe waterlogging during morning and evening traffic.

  • LBS Road near Kurla and the Vakola Bridge in Santacruz: Known for poor drainage and long traffic queues.

  • Andheri subway: Frequently shut down during heavy downpours due to flooding.

  • Service roads on NH48 in Vasai, including Maljipada and Tungar Phata, often experience deep waterlogging, making driving difficult.

Latest Update On Mumbai Locals

The authorities of Mumbai locals have not announced any warning, but Central, Western and Harbour lines are prone to minor delays during heavy rain. Low-lying stations such as Masjid, Kurla, and Turbhe have experienced slowdowns or temporary service suspensions due to track flooding in the past.

Powai Lake Overflow

Mumbai’s artificial Powai lake started overflowing in the early morning on Thursday due to heavy rainfall in the past two days. The lake has a capacity of storing 545 crore litres of water. Though the water is not used for drinking, Powai lake water is crucial for industrial and non-potable needs, particularly in areas like the Aarey Milk Colony.
