Mumbai News: On Monday morning, a coach of the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Gorakhpur Express caught fire near its wheels in Thane district, close to Mumbai, due to brake binding. Railway officials confirmed that the blaze was quickly extinguished and all passengers were safe.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Gorakhpur Express encountered a bout of brake binding near Thakurli in the Thane district. Brake binding, a common issue in train operations, can cause excessive heat buildup, leading to smoke and potential fires.
According to Times Of India report, passengers on the train noticed the heavy smoke emanating from the wheels and promptly alerted the railway staff on board. The on-site railway authorities responded immediately, utilising two fire extinguishers to douse the small blaze within minutes.
The train, which had initially departed 26 minutes late from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 5:49 am, was able to resume its journey in just 20 minutes.
In separate news, Konkan Railway operations faced disruption on Sunday evening as a landslide, caused by heavy rains in Maharashtra's Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, blocked the tracks between Vinhere and Divan Khawati stations.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred around 5 pm, but no trains were passing through the affected section at the time. However, the disruption led to the halting of five to six long-distance trains at various stations along the route.
Responding immediately, the railway authorities mobilised response teams equipped with machinery like JCBs and poclain excavators to clear the debris and restore services. Officials expressed confidence that the repairs would be completed within two to three hours.
