A doctor from Malvani in Mumbai’s Malad west has been accused of raping three women in three weeks, a police official said on Tuesday. The doctor, identified as Yogesh Bhanushali, was arrested after two rape cases were filed against him on September 27 and October 3. A third case was registered on October 15.
According to the police, Bhanushali used social media to trap women with marriage proposals and invited them to his home where his family lived a luxurious life. He then took them to his room and forced them to change their appearance and get tattoos on their private parts.
Police said that the accused would continue the relationship for some time, extract money and jewellery from women under threats of making their intimate pictures viral, dump them and again go after the next victim.

One of his victims filed a police complaint, but his family threatened the victim to withdraw it. His victims include a nurse and a call centre employee who were sexually assaulted and cheated by him. The accused was also charged under the POCSO Act in 2020 for misbehaving with a patient at a Covid-19 centre in Govandi.
The Mumbai Police suspect that there are more victims of the ‘serial rapist’ who may come forward. The victims’ lawyers have demanded an investigation into his medical qualifications and his family’s involvement in his crimes.
