The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation announced on Friday that tolls on Mumbai's iconic Rajiv Gandhi Bandra Worli Sea Link will rise by around 18 per cent beginning April 1. A representative for the MSRDC informed PTI that starting early next month, cars and jeeps will be required to pay Rs 100 for one-way trips, while minibuses, tempos, and other comparable vehicles will be required to pay Rs 160.

A one-way trip across the Arabian Sea cable-stayed bridge will cost two-axle trucks Rs 210. Drivers pay Rs 85 for cars and jeeps, Rs 130 for minibuses, tempos, and light commercial vehicles, and Rs 175 for buses and two-axle trucks when they use the eight-lane overpass. The aforementioned rates are effective since April 1, 2021.

The new toll rates on the sea link, which opened for traffic in 2009, will be in effect between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2027, he said.

Many drivers use the sea link, which connects Worli in Island City and Bandra in Mumbai's Western Suburban area, on a daily basis to travel south and north and avoid traffic jams in Mahim, Dadar, Prabhadevi, and Worli areas.

According to an MSRDC official, drivers who purchase booklets containing 50 or 100 toll coupons in advance will receive a 10 per cent and 20 per cent rebate, respectively.

The spokesperson stated that the cost of monthly passes will be 50 times that of their respective one-way travel rates. The cost of a return journey pass and a daily pass valid until midnight for frequent travellers will be 1.5 times and 2.5 times their respective one-way toll charges.

The under-construction Marine Drive–Worli coastal road at the southern end and the Bandra–Versova coastal road at the northern end are the destinations where the authorities intend to connect the sea link.
