Navi Mumbai Traffic Advisory: The Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has announced that the Thane-Belapur Road in Navi Mumbai will be closed from May 14 to May 21 in view of construction work. The authorities have asked the public for cooperation during this time.
The route between Savita Chemical and Turbhe Railway Station will be shut for all types of vehicles. These will include two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, as per a TimesNow report.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is looking after the project and is focussing on strengthening the road surface.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Tirupati Kakade issued the official directive after a report filed by the senior police inspector of the Turbhe traffic division. This comes within the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable state government guidelines. During this time, those travelling have been advised to use alternate routes. The traffic department has asked people to follow the new guidelines to avoid delays.
In another update, the Central Railway has finalised a fourth line between Karjat and Panvel to double the existing corridor, in addition to the suburban line, which would boost the connectivity to the Navi Mumbai Airport, the Mid-Day reported.
Once completed, the line would bring Pune closer to Navi Mumbai Airport. The Karjat-Panvel Corridor stretches 29 km. The fourth line will cost around Rs 491 crore.
Confirming the development, a Central Railway spokesperson said, “A final Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Panvel–Karjat (Chowk) fourth line, covering a 29-km stretch, was finalised and submitted to the Railway Board on April 7. The cost of the project is estimated at around Rs 491 crore. The project aims to enhance suburban connectivity and reduce congestion on this crucial corridor.”
