Mumbai News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to partially inaugurate the Mumbai Metro 3 project during his visit to the city on October 4. This section of the metro will connect Aarey Colony to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

According to a Hindustan Times report, PM Modi will also unveil several other infrastructure projects. These include a corridor of the Thane Creek Bridge, the final phase of the Samruddhi Expressway and the foundation stone for the Thane Ring Metro, among other initiatives.

Three potential dates, October 3 to 5, are being considered for the inauguration of these projects. A HT report source explained that due to the involvement of multiple government agencies, October 4 is being finalised as the common date for the events.

Mumbai Metro Aqua Line Inauguration

The aqua line of the Mumbai Metro, which will be partially opened, spans 12.5 km between Aarey and BKC, featuring 10 stations. The entire corridor will eventually have 27 stations, with construction on the remaining sections expected to be completed by March 2025.

The groundbreaking for the 33.5 km underground Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ metro route took place on August 26, 2014, led by former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and then Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. Construction officially began on October 21, 2016.

Navi Mumbai-Bound Lane For Thane Creek Bridge Inauguration

Additionally, the Navi Mumbai-bound lanes of the Thane Creek Bridge, also set for inauguration, are anticipated to ease travel for thousands commuting between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune.

Samruddhi Expressway From MMR To Nagpur

Anilkumar Gaikwad, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, stated that one carriageway of the Samruddhi Expressway is on schedule for completion by September. Motorists should be able to drive the entire expressway from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to Nagpur starting in October.

The expressway stretches 701 km, with the last phase covering 76 km. The Prime Minister previously inaugurated a 520 km segment from Nagpur to Shirdi on December 11, 2022, followed by a 105 km section between Shirdi and Bharvir in May 2023.

Thane Ring Road

Last month, the Union Cabinet approved the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail project, costing Rs12,200.10 crore. Recently, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation appointed STUP Consultants to design part of the long circular corridor, which will feature 22 stations along its 29 km route.
