Pune News: A 13-year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in Shirur taluka of Pune district on Sunday afternoon, marking the fifth leopard-related death in the district this year. The incident triggered outrage among locals, who later set fire to a Forest Department vehicle and the office of its Rapid Response Force (RRF) in Pimparkhed village.
According to Officials, the victim has been identified as Rohan Bombe, son of a farmer from Pimparkhed, about 75 kilometres from Pune city. The attack occurred around 3.45 PM when Rohan was playing in an open field near his house, located on farmland.
The Indian Express report cited Assistant Conservator of Forest Smita Rajhans as stating, “Rohan was playing in the open space in front of his house, which is on a farm. Around 3.45 pm he was attacked by a leopard and was fatally injured. After the incident, a group of villagers set on fire a forest department vehicle and also the office of the Rapid Response Force set up in Pimparkhed village in response to multiple human-leopard conflict incidents. Majority of the things in the office were gutted in the fire.”
Following the attack, tensions flared in the village, prompting authorities to deploy police personnel to maintain law and order. Officials said the situation remained tense late into the evening.
This was the second leopard attack fatality in Pimparkhed village and the third in the region within a month. Earlier, on October 12, a five-year-old girl, Shivanya Shailesh Bombe, was killed by a leopard in the same village. Later, on October 22, a 70-year-old woman, Bhagubai Rangnath Jadhav, was killed in a nearby Jambut village, just seven kilometres away.
