Pune Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Pune Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) informed that the much-awaited foot overbridge between Narayan Peth and Deccan Gymkhana is nearing completion. It further stated that the overbridge will be operational before the end of this year, adding that it will provide significant relief to the commuters. The overbridge will provide relief by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion, informed the officials. Earlier last month, the MahaMetro had stated that several projects will be announced in the upcoming months for the expansion of the metro services in Pune and other cities of the state.

While providing details, MahaMetro Director Atul Gadgil stated that apart from improving the connectivity between the two regions, the overbridge will also improve the urban aesthetics. “Apart from offering an improved pedestrian connectivity and convenience between Deccan and Narayan Peth, this foot overbridge will also add to Pune’s urban aesthetics," Gadgil was quoted as saying by the Free Press General.

The authority stated that while there were delays due to the excessive rainfall, the construction work is likely to be completed by the end of December. The total estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 25 crore, and it is expected to reduce the travel time for the metro commuters. The Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station will offer pedestrian access to the Peth area through this bridge.

Earlier on October 29, the Maharashtra government announced that the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro line will be expanded by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Mahametro). The 23.3-kilometer-long project was initially undertaken by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and is in its final stages.
