Pune Metro Update: In a major update for the metro commuters of Pune, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday approved the two key metro route extension plans. The government approved the proposal to extend the metro routes from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar Bus Depot to Saswad Road. The construction works will be conducted under the Pune Metro Phase 2 (Khadakwasla–Swargate–Hadapsar–Kharadi line) expansion plan. The extension of the metro services will boost the regional connectivity and will provide relief to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. The government also stated that several projects will be announced in the upcoming months to improve the connectivity.

While providing details, the officials stated that the decision was taken during the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made the key announcement and assured that several other steps will be taken to boost the connectivity in Pune and other nearby cities.

The officials also stated that the total length of the two corridors will be 16 kilometers and they will feature a total of 14 elevated stations. The estimated cost for the projects is Rs 5,704 crore, and the corridors are expected to provide relief to the commuters of several key regions, including Hadapsar, Fursungi, Loni Kalbhor, and Saswad.

Earlier on Monday, the Pune Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) informed that the much-awaited foot overbridge between Narayan Peth and Deccan Gymkhana is nearing completion. It further stated that the overbridge will be operational before the end of this year, adding that it will provide significant relief to the commuters.

“Apart from offering an improved pedestrian connectivity and convenience between Deccan and Narayan Peth, this foot overbridge will also add to Pune’s urban aesthetics," MahaMetro Director Atul Gadgil was quoted as saying by the Free Press General.
