Pune Metro Update: Maha Metro on Thursday stated that Pune Metro has witnessed a significant surge in the ridership in July. While providing details, the authority stated that the Pune metro witnessed a 24 per cent hike in average daily commuters in July in comparison to the past few months. The authority stated that while the average ridership was 1,54,652 from September 2024 to June 2025, the average ridership was recorded at 1,92,204 in the month of July. The Maha Metro informed that thousands of commuters choose public transport over personal vehicles in these months due to continuous rainfall. The officials further assured that several steps will be taken in the upcoming months to boost the ridership.

The authority stated that the ridership has improved in the past few months due to several steps taken by the authority, including increasing the frequency and number of trains. The Maha Metro officials stated that the Pune Metro witnessed a ridership of 1,74,702 on a daily basis in the month of June. While providing details, Executive Director (Administration & Public Relations) at Maha Metro Dr Hemant Sonawane stated that the commuters are opting for the metro due to waterlogging and other issues.

“Full 33 kms are operational now and we are increasing multimodal integration as well. Due to the monsoon season, people are using their two-wheelers less and opting to use the metro. A culmination of these factors might have led to the increase in ridership,” Sonawane was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Earlier on July 24, the authority announced a special initiative for the students to provide free of cost 'One Pune Student Pass' between July 25 and September 25. The initiative is announced as the new academic year begins in several educational institutions. The passes will be provided to all the students up to the graduation level.
