Pune-Nashik Highway: In a major relief for the traveller, the Pune-Nashik Highway is set for an upgrade that will reduce the travel time by 1.5 hours.
As part of the project, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will initiate a tender process for the 30 km stretch between Nashik Phata to Rajgurunagar (Khed).
At present, it takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. After the completion of the stretch, it will take 20 minutes to travel on this 30-km route.
The bids will be opened on September 25. Before this, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the District Collector’s office will have to complete 90 per cent of the land acquisition on an urgent basis, as per the directions of the NHAI.
The total land required for the upgrade is around 14 km and is mostly within the limits of PMRDA. According to a report by Pune Pulse, an assurance was given in a high-level meeting to complete the land acquisition by October.
The NHAI's project includes the widening of the existing highway and the construction of the elevated corridors to reduce the problems of traffic jams. For the project, the government had sanctioned Rs 7,827 crore last year.
The project will reduce traffic congestion of the Pune-Nashik Highway, especially on the route that connects the Chakan industrial area.
Details of the project
-There will be 10 entry and exit points on the highway.
-Total area of land to be acquired is 14 hectares, out of which around 9.74 hectares belongs to 150 landowners within PMRDA limits.
-Project cost is Rs 7,827 crore.
-The project will cover seven villages and an area in Chakan.
The entire distance between Pune and Nashik is 214 km. At present, it takes around 5 hours to complete this journey. After the completion of the highway project, this distance could be covered within three hours.
The Pune-Nashik Highway will not only shorten the distance between two key Maharashtra cities but also improve connectivity with Mumbai.
