Two young men aged between 20 and 22 years were arrested and two minors were detained on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl studying in a Pune college, whom they befriended on social media. 

The four accused got connected to the victim through social media and did not know each other personally. The accused allegedly sexually assaulted the teenage girl at different places in Pune between April and September. 

The incident came to light during a session on sexual offences against children organised in the college. During the session, a girl looked depressed and grabbed the attention of the counsellors. When interrogated by the counsellors, the girl told about the 16-year-old survivor, who is her friend and the ordeal she went through. 

“Later, an investigation revealed the victim had met the four individuals, who are not known to each other, on social media platforms and she was allegedly raped by them on separate occasions,” a wo, man official told news agency PTI.

The woman police official also stated that videos were also made of the minor and an IT has been invoked in the case. “We have registered a case against the four accused – among whom two are minors (age not disclosed), who have been detained. The other accused (aged 20 to 22 years) have been placed under arrest and further probe was on,” the officer further added. 

The accused have been booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section concerning rape, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In another shocking incident that took place in Delhi’s Narela, a four-year-old girl was allegedly killed and raped by her uncle and her body was found in a jungle. The 35-year-old accused works as a daily wage labourer and was living in a rented accommodation with his wife and two children. 

The accused identified as Ravi Kumar used to fight with his wife, telling her to return to her native place. However, his wife refused as she was working in a factory and earning money. 

Earlier, a fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr sentenced a 36-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 60-year-old widowed mother.
