Pune-Shirur Highway: The Maharashtra cabinet’s infrastructure committee has given the go-ahead for several major road projects, including a new multi-lane highway between Pune and Shirur. The decisions were taken during a meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Pune–Shirur Highway

As per the official statement, the Pune–Shirur national highway will cover 53.4 km. The plan includes a four-lane at-grade stretch and a parallel six-lane elevated expressway aimed at improving connectivity for fast-growing industrial belts around the region.

Major Road Projects Cleared In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

In addition to this, the committee approved two six-lane corridors in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. One project will link the Shendra and Bidkin industrial estates over a 32.8 km stretch, while the second will develop a 26 km route from Bidkin to Dhoregaon. This corridor will eventually connect to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Pune highway, strengthening regional movement of goods and traffic.

The panel also granted initial approval for a greenfield route that will link the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Jalna DMIC node at Karmad to the Samruddhi Expressway through Bidkin. Officials noted that this connection will support industrial expansion under the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

Fadnavis Orders Fast-Tracking Of Work

During the meeting, Fadnavis instructed authorities to begin repair work on the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Ahilyanagar road without delay. He also stressed that the Pune–Shirur highway must be completed within three years. The chief minister added that the corridor already sees heavy daily traffic due to several industrial hubs and that demand will only rise in the future.

The statement also mentioned that a 7.4 km elevated section on the Pune–Shirur route will be jointly constructed by MahaMetro and MSRDC to integrate both road and metro infrastructure.
