Pune Water Crisis: Several areas of Pune have witnessed a surge in water demand amid scorching heat as the city has been experiencing a rise in temperature for the past few days. The residents have lodged complaints to increase the supply of water in the past few weeks due to the lack of supply of water, stating that it was harder for them to manage with the amount of water they were supplied by the authorities.
While the authorities had supplied 38,522 tankers in February, the number significantly increased to 47,896 tankers in March (an increment of around ten thousand tankers in a month). The increased demand for water in such a short period of time reflects the water crisis that the residents have been facing.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) delivers water through tankers to the areas not connected to the pipeline infrastructure. To meet the increasing demands, the corporation has already set up tankers at various locations in the city, including Parvati, Vadgaon Sheri, Dhayari, Ramtekdi, Chaturshringi, Padmavati, and Patwardhan Baug.
PMC had stated that the water demand in Pune has been increasing in the past few years, adding that they increase the numbers of tankers accordingly. The data from the corporation suggests that while a total of 354,254 tankers were used in the 2022-23 financial year, the number of tankers used in the financial year 2023-24 was 400,348. Apart from this, 488,236 tankers were used in the 2024-25 financial year, reflecting the city's worsening water crisis.
