Pune Temperature Rise: Pune is experiencing a significant increase in minimum temperatures following a recent rise in daytime heat. On April 8, the Shivajinagar observatory recorded a nighttime temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, up from 18.5 degrees Celsius the previous night. Chinchwad reported the highest nighttime temperature at 25.9 degrees Celsius.

Pune Temperature: Lohegaon Records Hottest Day For Second Day

After a brief period of cool weather due to rain, temperatures in Pune are climbing again. Many areas, including Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Koregaon Park, Hadapsar, and Chinchwad, have seen nighttime temperatures rise by two to three degrees Celsius over the last 24 hours.

IMD Forecasts Hot, Dry Weather Across Pune For 48 Hours

The Hindustan Times report cited SD Sanap, a senior meteorologist from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune, as stating that, “For the next 48 hours, temperatures in Pune and much of Maharashtra are expected to remain elevated. The city is likely to experience hot and dry conditions during this time.”

On the same day, Lohegaon recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest spot in Pune district for the second consecutive day. Koregaon Park followed closely with a maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius, while Shivajinagar reached 41.3 degrees Celsius, an increase of one degree from the previous day.

Pune Weather: Rising Night Temperature Trigger Health Concerns

Health experts are warning that these warmer nights may pose health risks to residents. They explain that elevated nighttime temperatures prevent the body from cooling down and recovering from the heat of the day, potentially leading to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and dehydration, as well as disrupting sleep patterns.

Pune Temperature: Experts Blame Urban Heat Island Effect for Warmer Nights

A senior official from the IMD stated that the urban heat island effect is a significant contributor to the increased nighttime temperatures. He noted that urbanisation, especially in eastern Pune, has led to more concrete structures and infrastructure. This development traps heat, exacerbated by a decline in green spaces in the area.
