A petrol tanker crashed into a scooter carrying a family of four at Vishrantwadi Chowk in Pune on Monday evening, killing three-year-old twin sisters and injuring their parents. The accident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the incident site and showed the moment when the tanker ran over the mother and the daughters as they fell from the scooter.

The deceased’s father, Satish Kumar Jha (40), who was riding the scooter, suffered minor injuries while his wife sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. The tanker driver was arrested by the police and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.

The family was waiting at the traffic signal when the tanker hit them from behind as soon as the light turned green. CCTV footage of the incident showed that people nearby tried to help the family and called for emergency services but they couldn’t do anything to save the lives of the twin sisters, who reportedly died on the spot.

Police have initiated an investigation to probe the cause of the accident and the negligence of the tanker driver who crashed into the scooter carrying a family of four.
