In a fresh escalation, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad has now threatened AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel after the latter condemned him for assaulting an MLA canteen staffer over stale food.
While reacting to Jaleel's criticism, Gaikwad said, "I will beat Imtiaz Jaleel so badly that he will not be in a position to run a hotel." On Tuesday evening, Gaikwad, a two-time MLA from Buldhana, was staying at a guest house and ordered food from the MLA canteen. He claimed that the dal and rice were stale and stinking. With a towel around his waist, Gaikwad rushed to the canteen and punched the staffer on the face.
The video of the incident went viral on social media, causing massive uproar. While the Mumbai Police has registered a non-cognisable offence against Gaikwad, the license of the canteen was cancelled after investigations led to irregularities following the incident.
Reacting to the controversy, Jaleel, a former MP and the Maharashtra state president of the AIMIM, had criticised Gaikwad, saying, "Beating a poor person in such a way is not right".
Jaleel also reacted to Gaikwad's threats, saying, "Gaikwad has a history of fighting. If he is threatening me, then let me know the time and place. He doesn’t need to make an effort, I will reach that place… I have nothing to do with Sanjay Gaikwad, but if you are doing wrong… then I will stand with the poor person."
"Had Gaikwad been a bit educated, he would have written a letter to the Speaker. If the Speaker takes him seriously, he would have acted,” he added.
Within 4 days, Gaikwad has issued two controversial statements and committed an act of violence. After the canteen incident, he has given two controversial statements, one against Jaleel and the other against South Indians.
On Thursday, Gaikwad made derogatory remarks against the South Indians, stating that the residents of the southern states should not be given food contracts, claiming that they don't know how to serve good food and run "dance bars and ladies bars".
"Why was a contractor named Shetty given the contract? Give it to a Marathi person. They know what we eat and will give us good quality food. South Indians run dance bars, ladies bars, and spoil Maharashtra's culture. They have corrupted our children. How will they serve good food?" Gaikwad was quoted saying by India Today.
