Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Significance
Astrologically, the Sun and Moon are believed to be the brightest on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. They are believed to occupy their highest positions and emit maximum light. Venus also shines brightly and creates a rare celestial alignment. This phenomenon is believed to reset energies in the world, stimulating a wave of positivity and prosperity.
According to the Narad Puran, Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga. The holy rites performed on this day are believed to be everlasting or Akshaya. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and take a dip in the holy waters of the Ganges to cleanse themselves of sins. They also worship Lord Vishnu with unbroken rice grains and feed Vaishnava Brahmanas.
As per Hindu beliefs, the day is believed to bring success and happiness and people often start new ventures and make significant purchases. The Brahmanas who perform the rites on this day are believed to attain Vishnu's blessings and are revered by other deities.
In Jainism, Akshaya Tritiya commemorates the day when Lord Rishabhadeva - the first Tirthankar broke his fast after a year of meditation and search for the right food offering. King Shreyansa of Hastinapur offered him sugarcane juice, marking a significant moment in Jain history. To honour Lord Rishabhadeva who is also known as Lord Adinath, devotees observe a fast on Akshaya Tritiya.
